“Congratulations to Peter Rayney, the new President of CIOT.<\/p>\n
Peter practices as an independent tax consultant, specialising in corporate tax & owner managed business tax.<\/p>\n
Speaking at an online handover ceremony this afternoon, Peter said that revenue protection, consumer protection, and the reputation of the tax profession all demand that tax avoidance schemes are \u2018stamped out\u2019.<\/p>\n
He welcomed last week\u2019s government proposal that all tax advisers should be required to have professional indemnity insurance – as professional body members already do \u2013 to provide basic protection for their clients.<\/p>\n
In the speech, Peter also:
\n* Praised Institute staff, volunteers and outgoing President Glyn Fullelove for their response to the coronavirus pandemic, thanking the Institute\u2019s leaders for having \u2018steered us through a potentially perilous year\u2019;
\n* Said that while he \u2018can\u2019t wait\u2019 for physical branch meetings to restart the Institute should respond to the success of its online seminars and debates by keeping these going beyond the pandemic;
